What are love handles and how do you get rid of them? Love handles are made up of excess fat around the abdominal and hip area of the body.

Sometimes also referred to as muffin tops or 'spare tire' love handles not only have an effect on peoples self-esteem and confidence, but this excess abdominal fat can be lot more deadly and dangerous than you think.

This fat can increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep apnea and various types of cancer. So, you can see it's not just about looking good; it's about your overall health as well!

But, don't worry it's not all bad news; there are ways we can get rid of our love handles! As a personal trainer myself it is my duty to help people who want to lose weight, and transform their bodies.

Today I am going to show you the 'secrets', that aren't really secrets to getting rid of your love handles. I've put this into one simple formula that I use everyday to re-shape peoples bodies, and ultimately change their lives.

Good Diet + Exercises x Motivation = Results!

Let me explain...

Good Diet

All health and fitness starts in the kitchen! No matter what your end goal is, - you must address what you are eating or not eating in some cases.

So here are 3 points to always remember;

1. Never skip breakfast! Breakfast shouldn't be a plate full of fatty foods like a fry up, it should consist of foods like fruit and wheat. I personally like to have a fruit salad when I wake up followed by a bowl of wheetabix.

2. If you ever feel like snaking, then I would suggest you always make sure you have a piece of fruit handy. Many fruits are packed full of fiber (or fiber depending on where you live). Fiber is great for weight management, as it makes the body feel fuller for longer.

3. Reduce the amount you eat! This one may seem obvious but you would be surprised how little it is actually implemented. Having smaller but more frequent meals not only help in reducing calories, but also helps in maintaining a good metabolic rate.

Exercise

You have to burn more calories than you consume to lose weight. Most people are under the impression that if they perform a ridiculous amount of sit ups and crunches they will suddenly lose their abdominal fat. Wrong! To lose weight we must be working the whole body out, and anyways who else thinks sit ups and crunches are boring exercises?

Here are 3 points to remember;

1. You must be working the whole body out. Our aim is to burn more calories.

2. Don't be afraid to use weights. Using weights in a weight loss program can be the difference between losing a few pounds and losing loads of pounds! By combining cardio workouts with resistance training, you will see massive changes.

3. Always plan your workout. Planning your workout will save time at the gym. It has been proven that those who plan their workouts have lost more weight than those who don't.

Motivation

Some people find this the most challenging step from the formula. That's where I come in, but for you guys that are reading this I have provided some great ways to keep you motivated.

1. Visualize the way you want to look. By doing this you will keep your head focused on what you are trying to achieve.

2. Set yourself small goals, and regularly check back to this. Every time you each a goal set yourself a new one, this way you know you're making progress.

3. Why not train with someone. You can both motivate each other. I have a training partner (my brother), and we motivate one another.

So there you have it, a simple formula on how to get rid of your muffin top that you can put into practice straight away. The information I have provided here is only the tip of the iceberg, but by putting these simple techniques into actions you will be well on your way to losing those muffin tops!

Until next time, Take care & Keep focused, Chris Sherlock Certified Personal Trainer
